GUIDED FLY FISHING TRIPS |

After leaving the confines of Gore Canyon, the Upper Colorado River flows west through one of the most remote areas of Colorado until it reaches State Bridge, just a few miles past Rancho Del Rio. This section of the river has been designated by the Colorado Division of Wildlife as "Wild Trout Water" - one of only a few selected streams managed exclusively to produce self-sustaining populations of wild trout. The predominant species are Rainbow, which spawn in the spring, and Brown, which spawn in the fall. The average size is around 13-15 inches, but there are a lot of fish in the 16 to 20 inch range. This section of the Upper Colorado River has several hatches that occur throughout the year - mainly mayflies, caddis, and stoneflies. During the run-off in the spring, from mid May through June, the salmonfly hatch provides a good time to catch large fish. Later in the summer, terrestrials and attractor patterns also work well. This part of the river is best fished from a drift boat or raft because there are several sections of Class III water. If you want to wade, it's best to wait until late summer or early fall. The Upper Colorado River is a premier trout stream providing anglers with the opportunity to experience the thrill of catching and releasing wild trout. It's diversity, beautiful scenery, and abundance of large trout all make it a truly wonderful river. Rancho can hook you up with the very best licensed outfitters in the area. These guys know the river extremely well and their local knowledge is invaluable.
